Monica Valencia Receives Highest Honors | University of Southern California

The Order of the Laurel and the Palm is the highest honor bestowed on graduating seniors for exemplary leadership and excellent scholarship. In 2013, only 22 seniors were given this honor out of the entire graduating senior class. Monica was one of the 22 honorees.

According to USC.edu, "Exemplary leadership and excellent scholarship characterize those selected for the Order of the Laurel and the Palm - the highest honor bestowed on graduating undergraduates. Recipients have displayed dynamic leadership in multiple facets of university life, demonstrating engagement and service that often extends beyond campus or regional boundaries. Less than one percent of the graduating class is selected as part of the Order of the Laurel and the Palm."

Monica Valencia also received the Discovery Scholar award the same night which "honors students who excel in the classroom while demonstrating the ability to create exceptional new scholarship or artistic works. Like sailors on an unexplored sea, Discovery Scholars blaze new paths, rather than simply following the course charted by others." source: usc.edu

She was also was subsequently inducted into the "Wall of Scholars" by the Skull & Dagger Society of USC, where her name is engraved on a wall located in the Leavey Library at USC.
