Graduate School for McNair Scholars
Monica Valencia received several graduate school and law school offers following her graduation from the University of Southern California in 2013.
Although she declined her offer to study Human Rights at Columbia University in New York, she is happy to be pursuing her Juris Doctorate (J.D.) at the University of San Francisco.
Monica debated for several months on what would be the best academic option for her, but ultimately, her decision to stay close to her family out-weighed her desire to pursue higher education at Columbia University. Monica is very happy with her decision and would like to especially thank her close mentors for their wise words and encouragement: Dr. Pierrette Hondagneu-Sotelo, Dr. Jody Agius Vallejo and Dr. Marie Butler.
